Scarface Tears Up When Speaking On His Grandmother’s Influence [VIDEO]

May 14, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Many consider Scarface to be one of the greatest MCs of all time. Others say he's the GOAT in the flesh. Both have legitmate reasoning. His incomparable story telling ability and authenticity made him a prolific figure in the culture, and allowed him to craft countless classic albums. With a legacy like this, it was only right that The Combat Jack Show connected with the Houston native.

Reggie "Combat Jack" Osse and co. had an open dialogue with FaceMob in the latest installment of the Complex TV leg of the show. The former Geto Boy discussed a bevy of topics, including his feelings on regional influences in Hip-Hop today, but none affected him like speaking on his grandmother.

Face revealed that the matriarch of his family inspired Geto Boys' classic 1991 single, "Mind Playing Tricks On Me," along with many of his other infamous tracks. "My grandmother has a book of sh*t that she says. I can't look at it, because it breaks me down," said the legendary rapper. "She's got a book, and the kids did it, where all the things that grandma said. It's funny of hell, and they are titles for records."

The mere thought of the book drew Face to tears, and his reaction infers that the titling of the songs she inspired were subconscious decisions. It's actually very awe inspiring to hear him piece it together.

See Face speak in depth about his grandmother and more below.

French Montana ft. DJ Khaled, Mavado, Ace Hood, Snoop Dogg & Scarface – “F**k What Happens Tonight” [LISTEN]

May 9, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

French Montana, a man of many posse cuts, returns with another offering from Excuse My French called "F**k What Happens Tonight." This track features a few frequent collaborators in DJ Khaled, Mavado, and Ace Hood, as well as Hip-Hop legends Snoop Dogg and Scarface.

"F**k what happens tonight. I got my gun on me," chants Mavado over an emphatic chorus. This sentiment echoes throughout the song, as each rapper spits about going down in the blaze of glory if the situation calls for it.

Producer Beat Bully laced the cut with distinct horns from Major Harris's "I Got Over Love," which the track samples. Listeners may recognize the trumpets, because they also fueled a Just Blaze-produced staple song by The Diplomats called "I Really Mean It."

"F**k What Happens Tonight" drops just weeks before the Bronx rapper's major label debut Excuse My French. Fans have to wait until May 21 to get an official copy, but feel free to pre-order it on iTunes here. Listen to Montana's latest drop below.

Scarface Says Hip-Hop Is “Too F-cking White” [VIDEO]

April 26, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Brad “Scarface” Jordan is reputable in the circles of Hip-Hop. Although the OG hasn't dropped an official release since 2010, the Houston native's catalog is still potent. Fans of Scarface know of his famous collaboration with the late Tupac “2Pac” Shakur, and he travels down memory lane in a recent interview about their classic “Smile” collaboration. Face Mob also utters a controversial statement, stating that Hip-Hop has been overtaken by powerful White men.

Hardknock.tv sat down with Face during last month's Paid Dues festival for the second part of an ongoing interview and the Geto Boy rapper wasted no time in speaking his mind on the current state of Hip-Hop. After giving praise to Compton standout Kendrick Lamar in response to a question regarding Hip-Hop's current state, the veteran launched a vicious tirade on the recording industry.

From the interview:

I feel like the people that are in control of what Hip-Hop does is so f*cking White and so f*cking Jewish until they don't give a f*ck about what the culture and the craft or what it really is. I don't know if them mother*ckers trying to…let me say it right because I want this to be as offensive as I can possibly make it for these old ass punks that's running these record labels. They're in these powerful positions to dictate what the Black community hears and listens to. I f*cking hate that sh*t, like that sh*t pisses me off.

Scarface continues to rail on the industry, calling it a conspiracy against Black listeners and even calls the tactic brainwashing. The conversation switched gears as the former Def Jam South boss dropped gems of advice for upcoming rappers, echoing his strong sentiment of Black people taking ownership of the content. The meat of the conversation, however, was when Scarface gave an emotional retelling of how he and close friend 2Pac came to record “Smile.”

Pac was always on fire,” shared a choked up Face. “We went to the studio and jammed, and that was the last time I seen the homie, man.”

Stalley ft. Scarface – “Swangin” [LISTEN]

March 26, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

Many scoffed at Stalley signing with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group, but why not? Every team needs a variety of players and Stalley's blue collar lyricism only adds to the MMG roster's clout and depth. Now, we get a single called "Swangin," featuring Scarface, from the Ohio rapper's forthcoming proper album.

The former D1 basketball player keeps the subject familiar, flossing in box whips with chromes out rims and grills. The atmospheric groove sets a relaxing mood and after a couple of verses from Stalley, the legendary Scarface steps in and drops the closing bars.

Remember kiddies, these brothers are rhyming about sippin' on that lean, but the key is moderation if you're not going to leave that ish alone. Don't be like Soulja Boy. No shots.

No word on when Stalley's debut will be in stores. Until then, take a listen to "Swangin" down below and if you're diggin' the groove, cop it on iTunes.
