Jay-Z & Raekwon In The Studio [PHOTO]

May 15, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

This one will make the rap purists smile for sure. Jay-Z and Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon have been spotted in the studio together.

The Chef shared a photo of him and Hova in the lab and mugging for the camera on his Instagram. "Long time coming!!! Hov x chef ... Much luv to my dude Lenny S aka @kodaklens for making it happen!!! #ComingSoon.," read the caption. The aforementioned Lenny S, the Roc's longtime A&R, took and shared the pic with the following message: "We workin on Real Rap shit over here. JAY x RAE #RocNation #Wu"

No word on where or how many songs these two cooked up. Jay-Z is surely crafting his next album while Rae has a new project in the works called F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art), too. The latter just dropped a couple of well received tracks; "Son Of Sam" and "All About You," featuring Estelle.

Raekwon ft. Estelle – “All About You” [LISTEN]

May 12, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Listeners caught a few gems on Funkmaster Flex's Who You Mad At? Me Or Yourself? project. One of them was a track by the incomparable Raekwon and Estelle called "All About You." The only gripe was Funk Flex's barking all throughout the song.

Luckily, fans receive a CDQ version of this smooth Jerry Wonda-produced cut. Estelle provides a soulful chorus, while The Chef defers from his patented savvy street tales to cater to the apple of his eye. Being the OG that he is, the Wu-Tang Clan lyricist spits with a self described "fly slick intelligence" like only he could.

There's no word on if "All About You" will double as a single from Raekwon's forthcoming LP, F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art). It very well could, though.

Hear why below.

Raekwon – “Son Of Sam” [LISTEN]

May 11, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Hip-Hop grants most good MCs a three to five year shelf life, and that's if they're lucky. Meanwhile, Raekwon has been spitting for OGs and hustlers for upwards of 20 years. Credit that to his consistency and transparency. Let's not forget his quality bars like the ones provided on his latest drop "Son Of Sam."

The soul oozes out of a menacing boom-bap beat by Frank G and RoadsArt, and proves to play up to The Chef's strong suits. In other words, expect potent verses that paint a picture of interactions between street figures. Listen closely, because the tale gets very intricate.

"Son of Sam" is possibly the first offering from Raekwon's forthcoming sixth studio album, F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art). The legendary rapper's collaborative project with Scram Jones, The Chef vs. The Beast, can whet appetites until the project releases some time this year.

Raekwon Speaks On Wu-Tang Clan Reunion Album, Unreleased ODB Tracks & More [VIDEO]

April 22, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Raekwon has been on a tear lately, dropping consistent heat rocks and leaving his much younger competition in the dust. After two decades in the game, the Chef is reuniting with his Wu-Tang Clan brothers for the upcoming 20th anniversary album, A Better Tomorrow.

Raekwon chopped it up with Sermon's Domain over the weekend after rocking a set at Coachella and dropped some thoughts, including not knowing the name of the upcoming Clan record.

“For that particular title right there, I didn't have no knowledge of that,” says Raekwon. “I found out like a fan too, but RZA, that's the Abbot and he do what he do.  I liked the title overall. Titles can change anytime anyway.”

Rae knows that fans are expecting a lot out of the Wu with A Better Tomorrow, and he explains that he and his crew are going in with the best intentions.

“It gotta be a hit, it gotta be a smasher,” he explained. “ The 20-year balance, it's balanced itself out. It's time for another record. That's why business is so adamant.”

This fall will mark nine years since the passing of popular clansman Ol' Dirty Bastard. Rae was pressed on whether or not ODB will have some possible verses from the vaults make it on the album. "Yo, it's a lot of things in the archives, things I haven't even seen yet," answered Rae.

Check out the rest of the interview below where Raekwon speaks on a possible Wu-Tang Clan tour, a new solo record and more.

Raekwon – “Restaurant” [LISTEN/DOWNLOAD]

April 10, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Fans of Raekwon are in for a treat, as producer and frequent collaborator Scram Jones created a compilation mixtape of his and the legendary MC's work titled The Chef vs. The Beast. With that, we receive an appetizer via this unreleased track titled "Restaurant."

As always, the Wu-Tang Clan MC is at his very best when painting vivid tales of a gritty street encounters, often involving kilos of that Columbian bam-bam. The situation amplifies here, as Raekwon discovers a snake in the grass within his circle and reacts to the situation accordingly.

The Chef vs. The Beast will don 22 songs, many of which you'll recognize. Among its numerous guest appearances are Wu-Tang members Inspectah Deck and Masta Killa, Mobb Deep, Jadakiss, Styles, CL Smooth, Sauce Money, Bun B, Busta Rhymes, and more. If all goes to plan, the Internets will receive the project some time today.

Raekwon ft. Maino – “To The Top” [VIDEO]

March 27, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

It was easy for fans to miss Raekwon's Lost Jewelry EP in the influx of tunes that hit the Internets on a daily basis. If this applies to you, feel free to acquaint yourself with one of the project's best tracks, "To The Top," for which the Chef provides a visual treatment today.

Brooklyn rapper Maino joins the legendary Wu-Tang member in the video for the soulful cut. Director Mazi O. took a cinematic approach in the shots by weaving together an intricate plot around two New York City police officers who are in hot pursuit of Raekwon and Maino.

As the plot thickens, viewers will see that things are far from what they seem. We won't spoil the turn of events, so you'll have to watch the video for yourself below. Also be sure to check out the rest of Raekwon's 12-song Lost Jewelry EP, featuring appearances by Faith Evans, Freddie Gibbs, and Altrina Renee here.

Raekwon & Rakim Perform In NYC [VIDEO]

March 22, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Attendees of New York City's Studio 48 last night were in Hip-Hop dreamland, as legendary MCs Raekwon The Chef and Rakim graced the stage. The night was filled with nonstop performances of hit after hit, first by the Wu-Tang lyricist, who ran through an assortment of joints from the Clan and surprised folks by unveiling a few new solo tracks in the process.

As a surprise, GZA also showed face for an interactive rendition of the classic "Protect Ya Neck," during which the crowd rapped more than the actual rappers. That was pretty much how the night went too, with the crowd pretty much reciting all lyrics verbatim

Raekwon let the fans know that they were witnessing a moment that's near and dear to his heart. "I would never have thought in a million years when I was younger [that] I would ever have an opportunity to be on the stage with the god, Rakim Allah," said The Chef, who admitted to being a reflection of Rakim. "He taught us how to get fly. He taught us knowledge of self. He taught us how to put the right s**t on, the real s**t on, and not that fugazee baby."

That intro pretty much set the stage for Rakim to bless the microphone with his classic rhymes. See footage from the show below and on the following page after the jump.

Yelawolf – Trunk Muzik Returns Mixtape [DOWNLOAD]

March 15, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Yelawolf takes fans back to his roots with the follow up to his critically acclaimed 2010 mixtape Trunk Muzik 0-60 with Trunk Muzik Returns. We've already gotten a feel for what to expect on the project through leaks like "F.A.S.T. Ride" and "Gangster," featuring Big Henry and A$AP Rocky. Now, the Internets receive the full 10-track opus for your listening pleasure.

Listeners will hear a more polished Yelawolf this time around, but that isn't a bad thing in the least bit. While his rapid fire bars remain intact, there is a clear growth in his ability to create a record, which will ultimately improve his artistry

The Shady Records lyricist limits guest appearances to Raekwon, Killer Mike and a surprising Paul Wall verse outside of the aforementioned Rocky and Big Henry.

Trunk Muzik Returns should hold Yelawolf enthusiasts off until the Alabama native drops his second full length LP, Love Story, which is scheduled to hit stores some time this year. Stream the tape down below or grab the free download by clicking here.
