DWB: Ohio Cop Admits He Pulls Over Black Man For “Direct Eye Contact” [VIDEO]

August 28, 2015 in News by Trent Clark

Apparently, “driving while Black” is still a crime, especially in the town of Dayton, Ohio.

John Felton, a Black man, was visiting his mother in the city when he noticed a police officer was trailing him, most likely due to his out-of-state plates. Since we’re living in a world where a Sandra Bland suicide follows ticky-tack arrests, he did the logical thing and started filming on his cell phone.

The video, obtained by The David Pakman Show, revealed racial profiling in the highest sense of the definition.

“You’ve been tailing me for how long? You just needed a reason to pull me over,” Felton says after the unidentified white cop tells him he failed to put his turn signal on approximately 100 feet from the corner. “No disrespect, I don’t have nothing against police officers, but all this sh*t that’s going on now? That’s some scary sh*t. To have a police officer just tail you, and then you pull me over, ’cause you said I didn’t signal — what? Do you know how it looks?”

After the routine 10-minute wait while the records check out, the officer returns to issue his citation and offered up the real reason he stopped Felton.

“Because you made direct eye contact with me, and you held on to it while I was passing you,” the officer said.

“What?” an incredulous Felton asked. “I didn’t even see you.”

“I’m not gonna argue about it anymore, sir,” the officer continued. “If you want to keep talking, though, I’ll just get your license back and give you a citation for the violation, and we can take it to court. I’m not gonna argue about it anymore.”

Had Felton not been filming, there would be no evidence to support the claims when he told people of the flimsy

Yet, the evidence is down below. Watch it, starting at the :57 mark.

Ohio’s 1st Black Congressman, Louis Stokes, Dies At 90

August 19, 2015 in News by Trent Clark

Louis Stokes made history on November 6, 1968, when he became the first African-American to be elected to Congress for the state of Ohio; a position he would go on serve on fifteen consecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Today, August 19, he died at the age of 90.

His family released a statement this morning:

“Our family is mourning the loss of our husband, father, grandfather and close confidant. He died peacefully with Jay, his wife of 55 years, at his side. During his illness, he confronted it as he did life — with bravery and strength. He was always guided by faith, while embracing the prayers and well wishes of family, friends and constituents.

“We are grateful for the cards, prayers and words of comfort during this difficult time. He loved Cleveland and was honored to have the opportunity to represent its citizens in the United States Congress. He was equally committed to our family, and his love knew no bounds. It is this enduring love that will sustain us in the days and years to come.”

On July 20, his media representative released a statement that Stokes, who served the 21st and 11th Districts of Ohio for 30 years, had recently been diagnosed with lung and brain cancer.

He celebrated his 90th birthday in February.

Judge Sets $1 Million Bail For Cop Who Murdered Samuel Dubose [VIDEO]

July 30, 2015 in News by D.L. Chandler

Ray Tensing, the former University of Cincinnati police officer that shot and killed 43-year-old Black man Samuel DuBose, had his bail set at $1 million by a Cincinnati judge earlier today. Tensing is the first officer in the city to face a murder charge while in the line of duty, this after he shot DuBose at point-blank range in the head after a routine traffic stop earlier this month.

Tensing, 25, placed a not guilty plea at his arraignment hearing before Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas Judge Megan Shanahan. After Judge Shanahan’s announcement of the bail, people within the courtroom applauded loudly according to a report from Reuters.

More from Reuters:

Tensing was indicted on Wednesday on murder and voluntary manslaughter charges in the July 19 death of Samuel Dubose, 43, who was shot in the head during a traffic stop. The man, who turned himself in and spent the night in jail in isolation, appeared in court in gray striped prison clothes.

The incident was the latest in a series of fatal police confrontations across the United States that have raised questions about police use of force against minorities.

A body-camera video Hamilton County Prosecutor Joseph Deters played for reporters on Wednesday showed how the traffic stop escalated into deadly violence. After failing to provide a driver’s license at Tensing’s request, Dubose tried to prevent Tensing from opening the car door as the officer ordered him to remove his seat belt.

A report from adds that police in the city are prepared for widespread protests and riots, but adds that city officials say that policing and racial tensions have improved since a 2001 riot that was sparked by the killing of an unarmed Black man by police.

DuBose’s family said they were relieved that Tensing was given the hefty charges he faces and praised the work of the city prosecutor and the uncovering of the video evidence that led to the indictment of the former officer.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters called the DuBose murder one of the most “asinine” things he’s ever seen an officer do.

Ralkina Jones Found Dead In Cleveland Heights Jail Cell

July 28, 2015 in News by D.L. Chandler

Just as the nation is still processing the mysterious jail deaths of Sandra Bland and Kindra Chapman, a similar occurrence took place with 37-year-old Ralkina Jones. Jones was found dead this past Sunday (July 26) in a Cleveland Heights jail cell, just as a weekend gathering of Black activists and organizers was ending in the city of Cleveland to combat racial injustice.

The details of Jones’ death are still developing, but what has been obtained by local outlet WKYC is that she was arrested Friday, July 24, outside of a retail store after fighting with her ex-husband, Brandon Jones. Ms. Jones broke out the windows of Mr. Jones vehicle and assaulted him with a tire iron. Mr. Jones attempted to walk away from the situation, and Ms. Jones followed him and another man while attempting her ex-husband down according to accounts.

Jones’ 12-year-old daughter was in the backseat of her car at the time, and she was arrested on charges of felonouis assault, domestic violence, and child endangerment. Jones was under medical care for a number of unlisted health conditions, which was documented by the Cleveland Heights City Jail. It was after a brief visit to a medical facility that the situation morphed into the discovery of her body on Sunday.

More from WKYC:

On Saturday, a jail administrator noticed that Ralkina appeared to be lethargic. Ralkina was taken to HealthSpan. She returned to the jail shortly before 11 p.m. that night.

Around 12:45 a.m., paramedics were called again to check her vitals. According to officials, everything appeared to be normal.

Ralkina was observed throughout the night during routine jail checks.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., she was found unresponsive in her jail cell bed.

The Medical Examiner has now completed an autopsy and says the death doesn’t appear “suspicious,” but it remains under investigation.

The deaths of Bland, Chapman and now Jones signals a disturbing and perhaps coincidental trend, with their deaths just occurring weeks within each other. As a result, the social media hashtag “#SayHerName” has become a galvanizing call for those who are seeking answers in these cases.

As this story develops along with an ongoing investigation by local authorities, we will update this post with any information we can obtain.

Ohio Police Officer Shoots 4-Year-Old Girl After Aiming At Dog

June 20, 2015 in News by Trent Clark

A Ohio police officer is currently being investigated on an incident that left a four-year-old girl sent to the hospital with a bullet in her leg.

Reports The Columbus Dispatch:

A Columbus police officer accidentally wounded a 4-year-old girl in Whitehall on Friday when he fired at a charging dog, police said.

A neighbor and the girl’s uncle identified her as Ava Ellis, who was taken to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where police said she was in stable condition.

The officer was at a house in the 4100 block of Chandler Drive investigating a hit-and-run case about 3:10 p.m., Columbus police spokeswoman Denise Alex-Bouzounis said.

As the officer was walking from the home to his patrol car, a woman a few houses away called out to him, saying her sister and the girl’s mother, Andrea Ellis, had cut herself.

The officer was at the doorway when a dog charged at him, Alex-Bouzounis said.

The officer fired once, missing the animal but striking the girl in the right leg. It was unclear whether the girl was hit directly or by a ricochet. The officer has not been identified.

Andrea Ellis was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center for treatment of the cut.

Neighbor Carrie Britton said the family has two dogs and that they were on shock collars and couldn’t get out of the house.

Two dogs were being held in the back of the house after the shooting, according to police.

A couple of questions still remained. Where was this unnamed Ohio police officer’s tasers and pepper spray? Was he that in fear of his life over a dog that he felt like deadly force was the answer? Did the dog just happen to stand down after hearing the shot?

Today, June 19, needs to be buddy’s last day on the force unless he wants to work the pawn shop unit.

Ohio Police Pepper Sprayed Black Family At Pool Party [VIDEO]

June 17, 2015 in News by D.L. Chandler

On the heels of the events at the McKinney, Texas pool party incident, police officers in Ohio are under question after cell phone video showed them arresting using pepper spray on a Black family at a pool center. Police in the city of Fairfield claim they were trying to handle a case of disorderly conduct while the family contends that the cops were acting out of line.

Video of the June 9 incident at the Fairfield Aquatic Center was released yesterday (Jun. 16), with both police officials and a bishop speaking on behalf of Krystal Dixon and her family saying the clip supports their side of the story. Local outlet WLWT-TV published the cell phone video clip, which shows some white police officers arresting a few young Black people and what appears to be others fighting with the police.

More from WLWT-TV:

In a news conference, [Bishop Bobby] Hilton said Krystal Dixon brought eight children to the pool last Tuesday, but one child was ordered to leave, because he didn’t have proper swim trunks.

Hilton said Dixon went to get swim trunks but was told when she returned that the teen wouldn’t be allowed back in.

At that point, Hilton said, Dixon went to get the other kids from the pool, passing an officer who told her she had to leave.

Dixon told the officer that she had to get the rest of the kids and passed him. She retrieved the kids and was leaving when the officer grabbed her arm and said he had told her to leave, Hilton said.

In the video, it’s clear that a person’s arm was grabbed. However, Hilton maintains that nobody from Dixon’s group attacked officers at the pool. The bishop also added that Dixon’s accounts and the police reports do not match up and that Fairfield officers are lying.

Fairfield Chief Mike Dickey is defending the actions of his officers, saying that are “obligated to defend themselves” if they feel attacked.

Krystal Dixon, Maya Dixon, and two minors, a 15-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl, faced a variety of citations and charges including resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and assault.

Judge Says Cop Who Killed Tamir Rice Could Face Murder Charges

June 12, 2015 in News by D.L. Chandler

An Ohio judge said that he’s found probable cause to proceed with charging Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehmann with a variety murder charges related to the shooting death of 12-year-old Tamir Rice. Loehmann could potentially face murder, manslaughter, reckless homicide and negligent homicide charges.

As reported by The Guardian, Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Ronald Adrine said there is a pathway to charge Loehmann in the 2014 shooting. The judge also said there might be cause to charge officer Frank Garmback, who was there when Rice was gunned down by his partner. Rice was killed by Loehmann after he was approached holding a pellet gun in a park last November. However, Judge Adrine’s statements were countered by the county prosecutor  who wants to go in another direction.

From the Guardian:

The judge’s recommendation, however, was brushed aside by Timothy McGinty, the Cuyahoga County prosecutor, who pledged to proceed as planned with having a grand jury decide on whether the officers should be charged.

“This case, as with all other fatal use of deadly force cases involving law enforcement officers, will go to the grand jury,” McGinty said in a statement. “That has been the policy of this office since I was elected. Ultimately, the grand jury decides whether police officers are charged or not charged.”

In a 10-page order, Judge Adrine wrote that after viewing surveillance video, which shows Tamir being shot dead within two seconds of Loehmann’s arrival, he was “still thunderstruck by how quickly this event turned deadly”.

The judge said Tamir was given “little if any time” to respond to any commands from the officers, that his arms were not raised, and that he made no “furtive movement”. Adrine wrote: “Literally, the entire encounter is over in an instant.”

It should be noted that Judge Adrine cannot officially bring charges against the officers and cautioned that he’s simply an advisor in the developing case. However, this announcement bodes well for the Rice family as they continue to seek justice in the case.

A law in Ohio ignited a an appeal made by community activists and the family to the judge to review and prosecute the case, but Judge Adrine will have to defer to Cleveland or Cuyahoga County prosecutors.

13-Year-Old Busted Out Mom’s Car Window For Taking His Phone Away

April 15, 2015 in News by Latifah Muhammad

A 13-year-old Ohio boy was arrested late last week, after he attacked his mom’s car for taking his cell phone away. The phone got ganked as a punishment when he refused to clean his room.

Parents, Kimberly Harrison, 40, and Jerome McDowell, 46, told cops that their son was being “disrespectful,” and they’re right on target.

Before the car got ruined, the boy spit on his mom, and threw a Gatorade bottle at his stepfather. Then he preceded to head outside and beat the sh*t out of the 2001 Honda Accord.

He shattered the front window (the largest and usually most expensive window to replace on a vehicle, by the way), and smashed the roof, causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.

After he ruined the car, the teen left and told his parents that he wasn’t coming back home. He eventually returned, at which point he was arrested on misdemeanor vandalism and assault charges.

Ohio Woman Stabs Boyfriend For Eating Her Salsa

March 30, 2015 in News by Latifah Muhammad

Phyllis D. Jefferson takes food very seriously. The 50-year-old Ohio resident was arrested after stabbing her boyfriend, in the groin and stomach, for eating up her salsa.

Jefferson complained about 5:30 p.m. to her 61-year-old boyfriend that he was eating all of their salsa, police reports say.

She yelled and jammed a pen into the left side of the man’s pelvis.

She then knocked over his TV. The man jumped up and caught the TV before it hit the ground, police reports say.

While the man was catching the TV, Jefferson grabbed a small kitchen knife and stabbed the man in the left side of his stomach, according to police. Jefferson drove away, but police eventually caught up with her on Interstate 77 near U.S 224.

Akron police found the man holding his stomach outside his apartment in the 100 block of Lake Street. The man’s shirt and hands were covered in blood, according to police reports.

He was taken to Akron General Medical Center for treatment.

When police arrested Jefferson driving on the highway, she admitted to going H.A.M. on the boyfriend.

Jefferson made a court appearance today (March 30). She’s being held at the Summit County jail on felony felonious assault, and a misdemeanor count of criminal damaging.

BRUH News: Ohio Man Wanted For Sh*tting On 20 Cars In Neighborhood

March 12, 2015 in News by Cecil Lennox

Authorities in LeBron James’ hometown are seeking for a white male in his mid-40s for reportedly committing crimes you would expect from an episode of Family Guy.

They say the man has been terrorizing the neighborhood cars with his feces, uncermoniously earning the name as the “Bowel Movement Bandit.”

Or “Mad Sh*tter” if you’re nasty.

Reports FOX 8:

According to Akron Police Lieutenant Rick Edwards, the man is in his mid-40’s and incidents like this have been reported since May 2012.

19 reports have been filed in total and the cars have been damaged on the outside, the door handles and the interior, if they were left unlocked.

All of the incidents took place in the Castle Homes neighborhood in Akron.

Some victims reported the incidents thinking it was from a dog.

Lt. Edwards says investigators could perform DNA testing to try to identify the man, but he says for minor crimes, like this, that would be a last resort.

If arrested, the suspect could face charges, such as criminal mischief.

Akron Police are asking you report the man if seen at 330-375-2552.

While the handcuffs sound ideal, a proper asswhooping is definitely needed in this instance. Thank goodness the picture on the next page is censored.
