Nicki Minaj Leaving American Idol After One Season

May 15, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

Nicki Minaj's run as a judge on American Idol is about to be over. Reportedly, the YMCMB Barbie's first season on the reality talent show will also be her last.

Us Weekly reports:

Another seat at the American Idol judges' table will soon be up for grabs. On the heels of Randy Jackson's announcement that he's leaving the show after 12 seasons -- and amid rumors that producers are firing the remaining three panelists -- Us Weekly hears that Nicki Minaj will not return to the competition come fall.

"It's safe to say she isn't coming back to Idol," an insider tells Us, adding that the "Roman Holiday" rapper will be focusing on her next album, touring, and endorsements. "She's okay with it. She had a great time but was only going to do one season anyway."

Minaj joined Idol as a judge in 2012. Even before the new season commenced, there was talk of a rivalry with fellow judge American Idol. The two have been sparring privately and publicly from the start.

Although Randy Jackson already announced his departure, the status of Carey and Keith Urban's return is still unknown.

Nicki Minaj Covers Teen Vogue [PHOTOS]

May 14, 2013 in News by Hip-Hop Wired

While her stint as an American Idol judge has been full of drama (rumor is everyone is on the chopping block), Nicki Minaj still has plenty of positives going on. That's the gist of the YMCMB rapper's cover story in the June/July 2013 issue Teen Vogue.

From her interview in the publication:

Nicki on her teen years:
"I would never want to be a teenager ever again. You know, adults feel like teens don't have problems. I know firsthand that teenagers aren't always the nicest people. They can be cruel and tough, and they can isolate you."

Nicki on the music industry:
"People treat this business like it's high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can't be bothered. I can't allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can't be nice to someone just because they're hot right now. I can't do it."

Nicki on staying positive:
"I used to read the bad things people said about me. Then I asked myself, Why am I reading that when I have millions of people saying great things? You cannot give negativity power."

The June/July issue Teen Vogue is on newsstands May 21. Check out more photos of Nicki and the cover in the gallery.

Nicki Minaj Says She Thought Her & Mariah Carey Were “Friends” [VIDEO]

May 10, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

The big question, for people who care, is whether or not Nicki Minaj, or any of her fellow judges, will be returning next season to American Idol. The YMCMB Barbie recently sat down for an interview with Ryan Seacrest and addressed her return as well as her relationship with Mariah Carey.

Speaking with E! News, the "High School" rapper said that she got down with Idol after seeing how excited her fans were of the prospect of seeing her on TV all the time. She was then asked to describe her relationship with Carey, who she has been caught up in a passive agressive shade throwing game all season.

"Imagine someone that you loved your whole life...imagine you meeting them and then all of a sudden feeling like you did something horrible to them but you just don't know what you did," she told Seacrest. "That's what my relationship with Mariah is, and that's what it's been from the beginning. I just really thought that we were friends, but...that's the other thing I learned that this industry is so fake. You walk away thinking people are your friends and they're not. It's a couple nice hi and byes and then really, you better not step on nobody's toes. And God forbid you get a little shine. And God forbid you're maybe witty or quick on your toes or make someone laugh. Then maybe you're making another person feel insecure. And you shouldn't have to dim your light to let another person shine."

Recently, Randy Jackson announced that after 12 seasons he would not return to American Idol. The announcement led to speculation that none of the current crop of judges will return considering the reality talent show's historically low ratings. This is certainly not what Minaj had in mind.

"I came in to do Idol really in my heart thinking we were going to be the most fun judges of all time," she said.

Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj (& Everybody Else) Getting Fired From American Idol?

May 9, 2013 in News by Latifah Muhammad (@TheLatifah)

It's cleanup time over at American Idol...allegedly. Rumors are swirling that Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and the other judges won't return next season, news that just happened to leak ahead of next week's  finale.

"Yes, we want to do a whole new panel—but, just like last time around, it depends on who we get," a Fox source confirmed to E! News.

The source went on to say that there will "definitely be no Mariah," while decisions on Minaj and country star Keith Urban, have yet to be made.  "The others, it depends who we get [to take their place]."

Veteran judge Randy Jackson announced his departure earlier today, but the decision may have been fueled by the pink-slip rumors. "Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to rest, after 12 years of judging on 'American Idol' I have decided it is time to leave after this season," he said in a statement. "I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life-changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."

Meanwhile, Minaj told Ryan Seacrest that she's unsure of what will happen next season, but loves being a judge. "I have to say this all the time, but I want people to know it's genuinely from my heart. I love the people on 'Idol,'" the rapper proclaimed. "I genuinely do. If I had to do this all over again, I would have done 'Idol.' Because it's fun, it's laughs. It's kind of sad that what people read all the time is only when something is negative. But they don't realize that we built a family. I feel happy here and I have to thank them for giving me this chance. They could have picked anyone in the world. And they picked me. So that's all I'll say about that."

Carey, who signed a single-season $18 million contract to take the gig, hasn't spoken about the judging shakeup, and is instead promoting the video for her new single "Beautiful," which will air on Idol tonight.

Despite the media frenzy surrounding Carey and Minaj's ongoing feud, viewers haven't been as interested in this season. In January Idol debuted to its worst premiere numbers in the show's history.

Hip-Hop Represents At The Met Ball 2013 With Beyoncé, Eve, Nicki Minaj & More [PHOTOS]

May 6, 2013 in News by Hip-Hop Wired

Hip-Hop always represents anywhere it goes, and that includes the Met Ball 2013. Fashion's biggest night featured a bevy of Hip-Hop affiliated beauties, and dudes, on the red carpet, including Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez.

Yes, none of the aforementioned are rappers per se (hey, Kanye West was there, and word is he performed, and so was Eve), but the Hip-Hop connection is still official. The event kicks off the Metropolitan Museum of Art's yearly Costume Institute exhibit, which this year is themed "Punk: Chaos to Couture." We don't really see that aesthetic in the flicks we assembled here, but it's a safe bet you won't really mind.

Beyoncé is actually one of the events honorary chairs and you know it's a big deal since she dipped out on her Mrs. Carter World Tour in order to attend. Check out photos of the aforementioned as well as Eve, Miguel, Kerry Washington aka Olivia Pope, Solange Knowles, Nicki Minaj, Chanel Iman

Beyoncé Tells Good Morning America “My Daughter Needs Company” [VIDEO]

May 6, 2013 in News by Nadine Graham

Beyoncé granted Good Morning America an interview recently and broke the news that she and her hubby, Jay-Z, will have more children “when it's supposed to happen.”

Queen King Bey is already holding down an insane schedule with her Mrs. Carter world tour, her role in the upcoming animated film, EPIC, all while working on her next album, but the usually tight-lipped megastar says she hopes to make her daughter Blue Ivy a big sister whenever time allows.

“I would like more children,” she admitted with a smile. “I think my daughter needs some company. I definitely love being a big sister…And I am very protective.

“I just want to make sure that she can have a healthy, safe, normal life…,” she added. “In the back of my mind, she's my priority. And life is completely different now. I feel really, really just lucky that I can still do what I love, and now have a way bigger meaning. And that's to be her mother.”

In addition to baby talk, the 4 creator spoke on her controversial trip to Cuba -- a jaunt that had the GOP chomping at the bit-- but of course Beyoncé, the picture of impeccable media training, only addressed the most positive parts of her vacation. “You know, it was such a beautiful trip,” she shared. “I met some incredible children. I visited some incredible entrepreneurs. And it was really, it was really educational for me. I learned so much about so many people and the country, and it was actually quite shocking.”

Rich Gang (Birdman ft. Lil’ Wayne, Future, Mack Maine & Nicki Minaj) – “Tap Out” [VIDEO]

May 5, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

We saw the photos, and now we get the video.  The Rich Gang, aka Birdman featuring Lil' Wayne, Future, Mack Maine & Nicki Minaj, drop the official video for "Tap Out."

The Rich Gang go about their rap business in plush mansion, rapping about "million dollar pu--y." You gotta admit, there is something entertaining in watching Nicki Minaj and Future Stuggle Falsetto sing passionately about million dollar poom poom. Just saying.

This visual certainly had a good sized budget, with Kristina Milian, Kimora Lee Simmons and Paris Hilton appearing throughout. Yes, that Paris Hilton. Milian and Hilton play a server and bartender, who pull a heist, but only one manages to gets away. What this exactly has to do with the song is anyone's guess—just roll with it.

YMCMB's Rich Gang: Flashy Lifestyle compilation project is due in stores June 25. Watch the Hannah Lux Davis-directed video for "Tap Out" below.

Birdman’s “Tapout” Video Features Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Paris Hilton, Kimora Lee & More [PHOTOS]

May 2, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

Birdman has a penchant for going all out. For the forthcoming video for "Tapout," the YMCMB family is represented by Lil Wayne, Mack Maine, Nicki Minaj, and even Bow Wow. But Baby ups the ante by landing cameos from Paris Hilton, Christina Milian and Kimora Lee, among others.

The set of the Hannah Lux Davis video looks lavish, with Hilton also spotted showing off Baby's GTV liquor. Of course, DJ Khaled was in the place to be.  The "Tapout" video will premier later this week, which means probably tomorrow, or before the day is up.

"Tap Out" actually features Future, Weezy, Mack Maine and Nicki Minaj and is from Birdman's forthcoming Rich Gang project. Baby's "son" has had a rough week considering he  was hospitalized (and released) for yet another seizure and his quasi-apology to the Emmett Till family has not been accepted.

Nicki Minaj Rages Against Mariah Carey On Twitter, Calls Diva “Insecure” & “Bitter” [PHOTOS]

May 2, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

Nicki Minaj had "q-tip" trending last night during American Idol, and that's just a hint of the f-ckery. Today, the YMCMB rapper/singer took to Twitter to once again air out her co-judge and rival Mariah Carey

Last night on American Idol, Minaj told Carey to clean out her ears, and broke out a q-tip from her purse for extra emphasis when the latter didn't agree about her critique of a contestant.

So today, Minaj's rants started thanks to Perez Hilton riding for team Mariah Carey. The blogger posted a story titled "Mariah Carey BURNS Nicki Minaj On Idol For Lack Of #1 Songs! ...," and Minaj reacted.

"Bwaha! Burn? Shes sad i tied her record for Hot 100 entries in only 3 years of being in the game. Yep, a black female rapper @perezhilton," she tweeted. "What u SHOULD be doing (wit your messy ass) is asking why a woman SO successful at her age, is still so INSECURE, and bitter."

Oh.

The "High School" rapper also made sure to allude to reports of American Idol producers contacting Jennifer Lopez to replace Carey next season.

Remember when Minaj and Carey tried to downplay any beef earlier this year? Peep all the salacious tweets in the gallery.

Nicki Minaj To Make Film Debut in Upcoming Comedy The Other Woman

April 26, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Nicki Minaj continues to expand her brand on the small screen as a judge on American Idol. Now, the former LaGuardia High School drama student will get a chance to show off her acting chops on the big screen in an upcoming comedy titled The Other Woman.

Hollywood Reporter writes that Minaj (born Onika Maraj) will star alongside Cameron Diaz, comedic actress Leslie Mann, Game Of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and model Kate Upton. The film will be helmed by John Q and The Notebook director Nick Cassavetes.

The plot focuses on Diaz, who finds out she is the other woman in an affair with a married man (played by Coster-Waldau). After her discovery, she and the wife (played by Mann) join forces to take revenge on the cheating husband. Upton plays another of Coster-Waldau's mistresses, who also gets in on taking down the cheater. Minaj will play Diaz's assistant, a woman who's on her third marriage, who works at a law firm.

Minaj is no stranger to Hollywood, after providing voice acting for the animated children's film Ice Age: Continental Drift. Cassavetes will begin shooting the film between the spring and summer of this year in New York. No word of any poolside scenes featuring Upton and Mina in bikinis, however.
