Mac Miller Explains Turtle Symbolism In Watching Movies With The Sound Off Film [VIDEO]

June 18, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Mac Miller is an eclectic spirit to say the least. A day before releasing Watching Movies With The Sound Off, in stores today, the Macadelic rapper streamed his sophomore effort with an accompanying film that follows the life of a sea turtle.

Some would call this kindred audio and visual compilation the result of a night full of festive Mary Jane use, but to Miller it has a deeper meaning.

"It just went so perfectly with the album. It can mean a lot of different things," the Pittsburgh native said. "To me I see myself as that turtle, but I would hope that everyone watching would see themselves like that turtle; like really identify with that turtle."

Those who have seen the tale of the reptile know he experienced a hell of a journey. So in that regard, we should all be able to relate to Mac and the turtle.

Watching Movies With The Sound Off can be purchased via iTunes. Check out the exclusive interview with Hip-Hop Wired below to hear him speak on the controversial cover artwork, why there are layers to his latest release, and more.

Mac Miller – Watching Movies With The Sound Off Album Stream [VIDEO]

June 17, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

A day before its release, Mac Miller provides a free listening experience for his sophomore effort, Watching Movies With The Sound Off.

If you followed the Pittsburgh rapper's move on the Internets last week, chances are that you heard his name mentioned alongside turtles. Fans can see why today in an entertaining visual that accompanies Miller's album stream. Clocking in at just over an hour, the "Watching Movies" rapper pairs a quality album with a muted film. We'd say such is fitting for the occasion.

The narrative follows the aforementioned reptile, and his travels through the seven seas. In other words, it's safe to say that a certain leafy, green drug influenced this decision.

Nevertheless, the video does compliment the music perfectly.

Watching Movies With The Sound Off dons a whopping 19 tracks (counting the bonus songs) and features verses from ScHoolboy Q, Tyler, The Creator, Action Bronson, Vinny Radio, Ab-Soul, Jay Electronica, and more.

Mac Miller Talks Watching Movies With The Sound Off & More [VIDEO]

June 15, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Mac Miller has been all over New York City promoting Watching Movies With The Sound Off before it releases June 18. This led the young MC to The Breakfast Club once again to discuss the LP, some of the album's collaborations, why he doesn't feel like he's in competition with Kanye West and J. Cole, and more.

It's less about a competition. I think that the thing is, it's like a big day in Hip-Hop and music," Miller said. Aside from himself, Cole and West, Statik Selektah and Quasimoto also drop project's that day. The "Watching Movies" rapper actually believes that country crooner Hunter Hayes will debut at number one that week.

Mac Miller – “Watching Movies” [VIDEO]

June 14, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Mac Miller is the unsung member of the trio of MCs set to drop projects June 18. Leaks from the Pittsburgh rapper's sophomore effort, Watching Movies With The Sound Off,  show that he's capable of competing with his counterparts, musically. Today, Miller returns with a trippy visual for "Watching Movies."

A pastor, gold chains, and women with loose morals all find their way into the narrative of the video. Then again, Miller boasts "looking at my life is like you watching movies" throughout the chorus. Perhaps this is the climax.

The "Donald Trump" lyricist coasts through psychedelic shots draped in gold chains. And those are just the mellow scenes. Others are borderline creepy —one features a group of masked individuals.

Watching Movies With The Sound Off dons guest appearances including ScHoolboy Q, Tyler, The Creator, Action Bronson, Vinny Radio, Ab-Soul, and Jay Electronica. Feel free to pre-order it on iTunes.

New Myspace Ad Features Pharrell, Mac Miller, Riff RAFF & More [VIDEO]

June 12, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Myspace is pulling out all the stops after a complete overhaul of the former social media giant was announced by Justin Timberlake earlier this year. In a new high-energy promo ad aimed at beefing up interest features Pharrell, Mac Miller, Schoolboy Q, RiFF RAFF, Ciara, and plenty of others.

Titled “This Is Myspace,” the ad opens up with a rocked out band thrashing out some tunes in the back as Pharrell walks around on a sparse set. The party gets live when flashes of the celebrity guests appear in the shot and the formerly quiet space turns into the world's wildest frat party. Complete with frantic dancing, random camera photo bombs, skateboarding, confetti, and a dizzying array of color, viewers will spend some time trying to identify all the cameos.

Iggy Azalea, Hit-Boy and newcomer Chance The Rapper all join in on the madness. The commercial has a lot going on, with shots flashing in and out of the in-house band wrecking their equipment on a small stage. There's a bit of eye candy too, with video models gyrating and making out in quick scenes throughout.

Myspace may not be as crazy as this ad suggests, but it does the job of piquing curiosity well.

Vince Staples ft. Ab-Soul – “Killin Y’all” (Prod. By Larry Fisherman) [LISTEN]

June 11, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Understanding that it's difficult to spot talented artists in a sea of struggle rappers, one we personally recommend is Vince Staples.

A few months back, the young rhymer liberated the thought provoking "Guns N Roses" from his upcoming collaborative album with Mac Miller, Stolen Youth. Today, he delivers another sampling of the project with "Killin Y'all."

Fellow Los Angeles native Ab-Soul kicks things off with a potent introductory verse. Staples proves his worth as a MC with a quality 16 of his own. For your information, it's rare for any MC to hold his own with Soul-O on a track.

Miller lends his hand with production duties under his moniker Larry Fisherman. Such will be the case on the entire LP.

Miller spoke highly of Staples in a brief sit down with The Fader:

Vince is an incredible rapper. Every single verse he puts down is the greatest shit you hear. He was over and said, ‘No one ever gives me beats.' I was making beats a lot, so we just did a project. I'm self concious about it cause it's my first step out as a producer.

Check out "Killin Yall" below and keep an eye out for Stolen Youth to release with an accompanying comic book created by Hug Life illustrator Phillip Lumbang in the near future.

Mac Miller ft. ScHoolboy Q – “Gees” (Prod. By Chuck Inglish) [LISTEN]

June 10, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Mac Miller is gearing up to release his sophomore effort, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, in eight days. That didn't stop the Pittsburgh native from treating fans to a new collaboration with Black Hippy associate ScHoolboy Q titled "Gees."

Knocking production by Chuck Inglish inspires the energetic pair to drop a few some eclectic, and often vulgar, rhymes. But who's complaining?

This track follows the release of "Suplexes Inside Of Complexes and Duplexes," featuring a rare sighting from Jay Electronica. Yes, the New Orleans rapper responsible for "Exhibit C" that now calls the UK home.

Miller's Watching Movies With The Sound Off releases June 18 alongside J. Cole's Born Sinner and Kanye West's Yeezus. Other feature appearances on the project include Vinny Radio, Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul, Niki Randa, and Tyler, The Creator.

Listen to "Gees" below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Mac Miller ft. Jay Electronica – “Suplexes Inside Of Complexes And Duplexes” [LISTEN]

June 8, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Watching Movies With The Sound Off is shaping up to be much more than an oddly titled album. After delivering a few quality singles from the project, Mac Miller debuts his highly anticipated collaboration, "Suplexes Inside Of Complexes and Duplexes."

This track finds the Pittsburgh MC spitting alongside the one and only Jay Electronica. How Miller managed to get a verse from the "Exhibit C" rapper is beyond us.

Nevertheless, the duo come with potent rhymes in tow over some cinematic production courtesy of Mac himself under his production alias Larry Fisherman. Eerie chords set the scene, while drums that fall on and off beat match the quirkiness of both rappers.

Remember that this is a movie in audible form. With that in mind, keep your ears open for Electronica's numerous references to classic cinema.

Though J. Cole's Born Sinner and Kanye West's Yeezus have become the focal point of conversations, Miller also drops his Watching Movies With The Sound Off LP on June 18. Other features include Vinny Radio, Earl Sweatshirt, Ab-Soul, Niki Randa, ScHoolboy Q, and Tyler, The Creator.

Statik Selektah ft. Sean Price & Mac Miller – “21 & Over” [VIDEO]

June 5, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

On paper, a Sean Price and Mac Miller collaboration is a brow raising disaster in the making. Accomplished producer Statik Selektah somehow proved those assumptions wrong when he released "21 & Over" a few weeks ago. Now that the track has gained some notoriety, the beatsmith returns today with a quick visual for the cut.

Statik keeps the video simple by using footage from a day he was with both MCs. The locale looks to be a festival of some sort, because a bevy of other rappers like Joey Bada$$, ScHoolboy Q, and more were also there to join the festivities.

"21 & Over" will appear on Statik's new album Extended Play. The aforementioned song and others like "Birds Eye View" and "Game Break" infer that the project could be a heater. Fans will have to wait until June 18 to know for sure, though.
