See Jamie Foxx As Super Villain Electro On Spider-Man 2 Set [PHOTOS]

April 16, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Last fall, the rumor mill was abuzz with talks that Jamie Foxx would appear in the sequel to last year's The Amazing Spider-Man franchise reboot. A series of photos featuring the actor and singer dressed as Spidey's arch nemesis Electro have been leaked to the Internets, and we have to admit it looks pretty cool.

The Daily Mail caught several snaps of Foxx in costume walking around Times Square as Maxwell Dillon, an electrical engineer who becomes mutated after a freak lightning accident. Becoming the super villain Electro, the character is known as one of Spider-Man's most frequent and feared enemies in the Marvel Comics franchise. Back in the day, Electro's getup was a little zany in print but the film version renders Foxx's skin an electric blue. With burn scars and discolored eyes, Electro looks menacing and Foxx is nearly unrecognizable in makeup.

Savvy fans knew that Electro would be the next villain to pop up in the film series; this after a bonus scene from the first movie featured The Lizard and a lot of lightning. Foxx admitted to the Mail that he was a fan of the comic books, but didn't reveal any other choice details. He also expressed gratitude for the role, saying that his star turn in Django Unchained landed him the gig.

“I'm going to keep it close to the chest but I followed the Spider-Man comic books,” said Foxx. “It's another testament to Quentin Tarantino because without Django, I wouldn't be doing Spider-Man.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 from director Marc Webb hits theaters in 2014.

Freeway Ricky Ross Says Nick Cannon Will “Kill It” In Biopic [VIDEO]

March 7, 2013 in News by Latifah Muhammad (@TheLatifah)

Nick Cannon's forthcoming dream role has been approved by the man he's set to portray: Freeway Ricky Ross. In an exclusive interview with Hip Hollywood, the ex-con showered Cannon with tons of praise.

Cannon's portrayal of the former drug dealer is a far cry from his more comedic gigs, including creating Wild'N Out and hosting America's Got Talent. Ross however believes that the 32-year-old will do an amazing job. “My gut feeling is telling me that Nick is going to kill it,” he predicted. “I believe that he is the next big star, black star coming out, it just seems so right to me right now.”

Ross is said to have reached out to the likes of Jamie Foxx, Larenz Tate, Don Cheadle, and Denzel Washington about playing him. He believes that his story is different from films of a similar context, in that there “hasn't been a drug dealer that has come out and put everything out.”

Equally excited about the flick is Cannon. “I've been wanting him to play my role since '96,” he said in a video posted online, further explaining his close relationship with Ross. “We family now, we are going to get this thing right. However long it takes, his story has got to be told.”

Donald Trump Says Django Unchained Is “The Most Racist Movie” He’s Ever Seen [PHOTOS]

February 25, 2013 in News by Latifah Muhammad (@TheLatifah)

You can always count on Donald Trump to give his opinion on pretty much anything. This time, Trump has slammed Django Unchained, as "the most racist" movie he's ever seen.

He's a little late with the critique since Django hit theaters on Christmas Day, but given its two wins at the Oscars last night--in the Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor categories--Trump figured he might as well speak up.

Trump was tweeting up-to-the-minute reviews of the awards show, and called out Django as a terrible film. "'Django Unchained' is the most racist movie I have ever seen, it sucked!"

The 65-year-old isn't the only person who hated the spaghetti-Western-style slave film. Spike Lee blasted director Quentin Tarantino over the work, only to face criticism over his criticism, from Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell, and Jamie Foxx.

Like in the case of Lee, speaking out opens one up to backlash, and the Twitter responses that Trump received were pretty epic. In fact, we've pulled a bunch of them for your review.

Gun Advocates Launch “What Would Django Do?” Campaign To Appeal To Minorities

January 25, 2013 in News by Latifah Muhammad (@TheLatifah)

The people behind “Gun Appreciation Day” are looking to get more minorities involved in their plight, and have launched a “What Would Django Do?” campaign.

Coming less than a week after the unofficial holiday where gun advocates across the country exercised their second amendment rights, the latest attempt at attracting more followers is sure to be controversial.

The group, called the Political Media, is headed by Larry Ward—the same man who theorized that Black people wouldn't have been enslaved if they had access to firearms. Ward's idea stems from a column by Jonathan David Farley who wrote that “guns have been the African-American's greatest friends,” and believes that historical figures like Martin Luther King Jr. would have agreed with his views.

“Gun Appreciation Day not only honors Martin Luther King, it honors Robert F. Williams, the Deacons for Defense, and the thousands of African-Americans like Secretary of State Colin Powell who got a chance at life, even success, because at some point they owned a rifle.”

Ward has partnered with Farley, who holds a position at The Warren Group, a company which aids in the advancement of causes deemed as “progressive.” The Warren Group as an entity is not connected to “What Would Django Do?”

The plan is to turn “What Would Django Do?” into a nonprofit organization, provided that no laws are being broken. “We'll cross that bridge when we get there,” Ward said. “We'll make sure we aren't violating copyrights, and if we are, we'll have to change the name. But Django is perfect for what we're trying to do, which is to promote gun rights to minorities. We'll tackle the issue on the Democrats' own turf.”

Django Uncahined's entire concept is centered around slavery and gun violence, as the main character, played by Jamie Foxx, works as a bounty hunter, who kills just about everyone in his path.

With the debate over gun rights still ongoing, Ward encouraged people across the country to purchase firearms, and attend gun shows last weekend. In the end, “Gun Appreciation Day” resulted in five accidental shootings.
