J. Cole Performs “Power Trip” On Late Night with Jimmy Fallon [VIDEO]

May 22, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

J. Cole was the latest lyricist to grace the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon stage. This time, the Roc Nation MC performed "Power Trip" from his forthcoming sophomore effort Born Sinner.

Backed by The Roots, Cole gave a smooth rendition of the standout jam sans Miguel. Fortunately, Captain Kirk of the legendary band was there to back vocals of the "Adorn" singer's chorus to give it that live effect.

In other news, light skinned Jermaine recently pushed the release date for Born Sinner forward to June 18 to compete with Kanye West's sixth studio LP Yeezus. "I'm not going to sit [here]... I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album," Cole told Billboard's The Juice blog.

"It'd be like, 'Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.' Nah. I'm going to go see him on that date. He's the greatest. So it's like, I'm a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn't even a thought."

Hip-Hop lovers can only applaud Cole's confidence, because that's what the culture is about. Born Sinner is available for pre-order on iTunes.

J. Cole Says He “Worked Too Hard” To Drop His Album A Week After Kanye West’s

May 21, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

Is J. Cole moving the release date of his new album, Born Sinner, up a week to drop the same day as Kanye West's latest project, Yeezus, foolhardy or a smart play? No matter your opinion, the Roc Nation rapper is confident he made the right decision.

Cole said competing with Yeezy for the hard earned cash of fans on Tuesday, June 18 was a matter of not becoming an afterthought a week later.

But, don't think the "Power Trip" rapper is snoozing on Mr. West's talents. He said, "At the same time, let's not forget this is Kanye West. He bets 100, 1,000, whatever the perfect is. His track record is flawless. I'm only expecting an incredible album from him. But I know what I have."

Will you be copping both Kanye West and J. Cole's albums on June 18 or just one or the other? Let us know in the comments.

Kanye West & J. Cole Dropping New Albums On Same Day

May 20, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

It's going to be G.O.O.D. Music versus Roc Nation on Tuesday, June 18. Kanye West and J. Cole will be dropping their new albums, Yeezus and Born Sinner, respectively, on the same day.

Yeezy revealed the artwork for his new album over the weekend, all but confirming a previously cryptic tweet of "June Eighteen" as his album's release date. Cole's sophomore album was previously scheduled to drop on June 25. However, the project's release has been pushed up a week.

The North Carolina native explained the move via Twitter while sharing the standard and deluxe edition album cover artwork. "Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation," he tweeted. "Which is exactly why I'm moving my release date up. Born Sinner June 18th."

The "Power Trip" rapper's move gives some breathing room to fellow Roc Nation family member Wale, whose new The Gifted album is out June 25. Also worth noting is that Mac Miller's new album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, is in stores June 18, too.

Check out both version of the Born Sinner covers in the gallery.

Do you think J. Cole made the right move by basically asking fans to buy his and Yeezy's new albums on the day? Will it aid or hurt his album sales? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Either way, it should be a great summer for Hip-Hop fans.

Kendrick Lamar Stars In Episode 2 Of J. Cole’s Born Sinner Series [PHOTOS/VIDEO]

May 14, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Last week J. Cole launched BornSinner.com to house personal selected content each week leading up to the release of Born Sinner, due out June 25. After honoring his recently retired mother in the inaugural episode of the Born Sinner vlog series, the Roc Nation artist returns with this week's installment featuring a friend and fellow prolific lyricist in Kendrick Lamar.

The Compton MC narrates his story using fond memories of being a good kid in a mad city as source material, and drops a few gems in the process. A slideshow of candid photos capturing Lamar performing and getting his mind right prior to taking the stage can be seen as he speaks.

One highlight in Lamar's tale detailed a conversation with a friend, who told him it would be a sin if he took the "easy way out" and decided not to speak for a greater purpose. The "B**ch Don't Kill My Vibe" spitter understood, saying "Everybody can rap, but only a few get in these positions when they can really speak to a generation of people. When I listen to people like Cole, it's that gift."

Fans can expect BornSinner.com to feature more individuals who were not only instrumental to the "Power Trip" rapper's forthcoming LP, but to his life. See Lamar speak in depth below.

J. Cole Launches BornSinner.com, Documents Mother’s Retirement [PHOTOS]

May 7, 2013 in News by Alvin aqua Blanco (@aqua174)

J. Cole has had plenty of inspirations in his career, but probably none as vital as his mother. The Roc Nation rapper has launched the BornSinner.com website to help promote his forthcoming sophomore album, Born Sinner. The site's first feature is an interview with his mom, Kay Cole, who thanks to her son's success was able to retire from her job as a postal worker.

BornSinner.com was created by J.Cole's Dreamville team and the "Power Trip" rapper serves as the site's executive producer and creative director. The destination will feature personal selected content each week leading up to the released of Born Sinner, due out June 25.

The site was designed by Hugo & Marie and promises to be a complete audio and visual experience for visitors. The first installment in profiles of individuals important to Cole's come is the aforementioned Kay Cole. In her own words she recalls how she got the gig at the local United States Post Office and  the fond memories she generated before finally retiring. Besides hearing Kay Cole's voice as the narrator, there are also photos that include the day she retired, which also reveals the inspiration behind the artwork to J. Cole's "Cole Summer" song; that's his mom in front of her mail truck.

J. Cole recently dropped a critically acclaimed free EP project called Truly Yours 2.

Check out photos of Kay Cole calling it a career in the gallery. Salute to J. Cole for honoring Mom Dukes, as anyone and everyone should.

J. Cole – “Cole Summer” [LISTEN/DOWNLOAD]

April 30, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

"The sample was yelling loop me," said J. Cole referring to his inspiration for a new song affectionately titled "Cole Summer." Thank the most high for that, because that feeling birthed a song with a warmth that rivals the season that serves as its namesake.

Cole looped Lauryn Hill and D'Angelo's "Nothing Even Matters" into a bouncy, yet soulful jam ladened with vocal riffs from the aforementioned singers. This gives light-skinned Jermaine room to spit with the honesty we've come to love from the Roc Nation lyricist. In result, listeners receive poignant bars often filled with humorous, but true accounts of his current success and feelings toward a potential sophomore jinx.

With "Power Trip" steadily climbing the charts, it's safe to say that Cole's come out swinging his second time around. And "Cole Summer" happens to be one of two tracks we can expect from the Fayetteville native in the next 24 hours. Just moments ago, he dropped a bomb on Twitter saying, "F**k it. Truly Yours 2 tomorrow. You Deserve it."

Born Sinner drops June 25. Whet your appetites to the smooth cut below.
