Neveruary 32nd: 15 Rappers That Are Never Dropping An Album

May 14, 2013 in News by Serge Fleury (@S_Dot_Com)

With the Internet advancing faster than ever, many Hip-Hop acts have adapted a new marketing plan when it comes to their music; give it away for free. A chosen few have been able to flip this scheme, and their fan bases into viable recording careers, others have failed miserably.

Day after day, week after week and month after month, hit up your favorite Hip-Hop website and you'll see an abundance of free mixtapes courtesy of the Mac Book generation. Some are worthy of taking up space on your hard drive, while most just are not. The trick is to give away plethora of material to the listeners, in hopes that those same fans will buy your official studio album—that comes with a barcode on and is purchasable via iTunes, record stores, or the artist's personal website—once it's released.

There are those that have ridden the mixtape-to-studio album wave to great success, i.e. Mac Miller, Kid Cudi, and Kendrick Lamar, just to name a few. But there are a lot more that seem terrified to take the commercial plunge and see who's out there willing to pay $8.99 for their record. Stuck in the Mixtape Matrix, here are 15 rappers that will never drop an album.

Kendrick Lamar Headlines Mass Appeal’s Ice Cream Official SXSW Social Launch Party

March 7, 2013 in News by D.L. Chandler

Kendrick Lamar's rise continues as the Compton, Calif. rapper will headline an exclusive launch party for culture and lifestyle magazine Mass Appeal at this year's SXSW festival. Co-sponsored and hosted by Pharell Williams' BBC Ice Cream imprint, K.Dot will be joined by some of Hip-Hop's best and brightest.

On March 15, Mass Appeal will release its 52nd issue and to celebrate, Lamar gets top billing at the Austin Music Hall for the Ice Cream Official SXSW Social. Veterans Bun B and Pusha T are also part of the star-studded lineup, with celebrated rappers such as the gravel-voiced Roc Marciano, true school enthusiast Joey Bada$$, and zany Detroit wordsmith Danny Brown.  Rounding out the massive list is producer Harry Fraud (& friends), A$AP Ferg, Emilio Rojas, Alexander Spit, Nylo, and Bia along with surprise guests.

Although Kendrick Lamar doesn't have any beef with his rap compatriots, the 25-year-old MC is paying attention to his competition after weighing in on MTV's Hottest MC's In The Game list which finalizes this week. "We need that. It's competitive," said Lamar in an interview with Rap-Up TV. "Even though we doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It's still competitive and I'm trying to compete with everybody to be the best."

Mass Appeal marks its return to the world of print with the new launch after going digital for a while. The magazine will drop quarterly with issue #52 available in the coming days after the event.
