Cassidy ft. Jomo K. Johnson – “Amazing Grace” [LISTEN/DOWNLOAD]

April 21, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas (@ChrisThomas266)

Months ago we informed you that Cassidy was been hard at work on a few projects in collaboration with Pastor Jomo K. Johnson of Philly Open Air Church. Today we receive the first offering from the musical piece with "Amazing Grace."

The track is a departure from the rapid fire punchlines we've grown accustomed to hearing from Cassidy. Instead, he and Pastor Johnson give glory to the Most High, and speak on how religion has positively affected their being. The City of Brotherly Love preacher even raps on the record, which is probably why this has been deemed the first Rapper/Pastor Hip-Hop Music Collaboration.

"Amazing Grace," is only phase one in the grand scheme of things, as Cassidy has also worked with GGIS Piublishing to create his biography Behind B.A.R.S., set to release with the EP April 30. See a brief statement from the former Full Surface wordsmith and let us know is you're feeling the song in the comments.

They say that your entire life flashes before your eyes before death. This book consists of what flashed before me the night of my near-fatal car accident. Some of these event I have not shared with anyone.

Meek Mill Airs Out Cassidy Again, Reveals Endorsement Deal With Monster [VIDEO]

February 7, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas

Meek Mill got some things off his chest this morning on Philly's Hot 107.9. By things, we mean a few choice words directed at his haters, including a certain City of Brotherly love MC. That's right, just when fans thought the beef fizzled, the MMG rapper directed some slick bars at Cassidy barely a minute into his conversation with host Q Deezy.

An abundance of profane language and self-imposed radio edits make it slightly difficult to get a full grasp of what Meek is saying, but with a little imagination you can fill in the blanks.

While the diss certainly opened up conversation, Cassidy was a short topic in the grand scheme of the 35 minute sit down. Meek and Q Deezy discussed a few sunjects, including when Dreamchasers 3 will release, the Rick Ross shooting and his advice to up and coming artists. Meek also briefly revisited the Drake and Chris Brown fight and quieted the Rihanna rumors.

Meek Mill was less compassionate than his MMG cohort Wale when asked about the attempted drive-by on Ricky Rozay. "Man, people get shot at everyday, B. We from Philly. Seriously. People get shot at everyday," according to the "Amen" rapper, who says Rick Ross is "cool."

Meek remained similarly tight-lipped about other controversial topics mentioned. He was most friendly while announcing his endorsement deal with Monster Cable Inc. one day removed from news that Swizz Beatz purchased a co-ownership stake in the company.

"Monster has always been a go-to name for music electronics as well as a big part of music culture," wrote Swizz Beatz. "They built an empire, and my job will be to push the envelope – turn the lights of the castle up really bright and help Monster take its next big step forward."

Acquiring Meek Mill looks to be phase one of their takeover, which pairs with news that Disturbing Tha Peace co-founder Chaka Zulu will serve as Monster's Vice President of Entertainment and Sports Marketing.

Cassidy To Release EP & Biography With Philly Pastor Jomo K. Johnson

January 25, 2013 in News by Chris Thomas

Since his well publicized beef with Meek Mill, Cassidy has been propelled back into the public eye. Now it's on him to capitalize on his re-found "fame," and thus far some of the Philly MC's decisions have been questionable. We see you "Condom Style." You can be the judge of Cassidy's latest venture with fellow Philadelphia resident, and pastor of Open Air Church, Jomo K. Johnson.

The project will be the a rapper/pastor Hip-Hop music collaboration in the form of an EP, from which the proceeds will benefit two Philly based charities, reports HipHop-N-More.

Ironically, or not, Johnson is the very same pastor that boycotted Meek Mill, which lead to the infamous heated debate and rift, which was eventually squashed, between the two on Philly's Hot 107.9.

Additionally, the "I'm A Hustla" rapper has also partnered with GGIS Publishing to create a biography, which according to him will be an “amazing testimony of finding Christ during his incarceration, a near-fatal car accident, and a commitment to make positive change in his life.”

At the moment, Cassidy hasn't divulged a title for either body of work, but both have a release date set for March 30 of this year according to the rapper. More information is forthcoming

We're all for progressing as people and getting better with the man upstairs, so we'll limit the slander here. Just don't put out anymore tracks like "Condom Style," man.
